Sophia’s Story
The first time I took Sophia for a run around Sefton Park, we lasted about ten minutes before we fell out. Years later, we’d cross a HYROX finish line together. The bit in between is my favourite part of her story.
After a difficult time when our youngest was born, followed by lockdown, Sophia started doing a bit on the bike in our front room to clear her head. When the gym reopened, she tried a kettlebell class. Soon, Monday and Wednesday evenings were hers. I’d sort the kids out and she’d get an hour to switch off. She stuck with those two classes for about two years.
Over time, she got stronger, made friends she still trains with and started putting her name down for things she’d never have pictured herself doing. We ran the Tunnel 10K and took on HYROX together. Ask Sophia what she remembers most and she’ll tell you about the laughs we had along the way. She’s since completed a nutrition qualification and wants to use what she’s learned to help other people.
Even now, with everything she’s gone on to do, that hour to herself is still the biggest reason she trains. If you’ve ever watched one of our videos and wondered whether you’d fit in at Phoenix Fitness Liverpool, remember where Sophia started. She gave one kettlebell class a go.
